The beauty of the Highlights of London Tour lies in its sheer simplicity coupled with its terrific versatility. In short, you will enjoy a breathtaking tour through 2,000 years of fascinating history at a pace that suits you.

Not only do you really get beneath the skin of the city but you also get to experience its ancient streets, world-famous landmarks, tucked away courtyards and hidden alleyways in the way they were intended to be explored – on foot.

THE DAY WILL INCLUDE

• A visit to Parliament Square to see Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey.
• A walk over Westminster Bridge for one of the most stunning views of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.
• A stroll along Whitehall, passing Downing Street, the home of the Prime minister.
• Trafalgar Square to view Nelson's Column.
• You will then walk along The Mall to see Clarence House, the home of Prince Charles and Camilla, and Buckingham Palace. If the Changing of the Guard is taking place Richard will time your arrive to ensure you see as much of the ceremony as possible and get you to some great vantage points for photographs and videos.
• A ride on the 15 Bus along Strand and Fleet Street to St Paul's Cathedral.
• A journey to the viewing platform atop one of the City of London's newest buildings from which you will get a magnificent view of the dome of St Paul's Cathedral and a glorious vista that will stretch as far as Big Ben.
• A walk over the Millennium Bridge to journey along the South Bank of the River Thames taking in Tate Modern, Shakespeare's Globe and Southwark Cathedral before crossing over the Thames via London Bridge from which you will get an excellent view of Tower Bridge.
• A visit to the Monument to the Great Fire of London followed by a short walking tour through some of the City's most historic streets and alleyways.
• The walk will bring you back to the riverside alongside the Tower of London where you will get a fantastic opportunity to get some memorable snaps of Tower Bridge before ending your day with a visit to the Tower of London.

You Get To Plan The Day

Richard will meet you in the lobby of your hotel (or at any venue of your choice) and, having discussed what you want to see and what you want to get out of the day, he will take you on an exhilarating journey that will be both informative and entertaining.

The Only Way To Get Around – Bus and Tube

The tour will make use of London’s speedy underground system to whisk you between locations. But it will also incorporate journeys by London’s iconic buses from the top decks of which you will see so many things that are just not visible from street level or from a car or taxi.

The great thing about touring London in this manner is that you spend 100% of your time exploring. No wasting time stuck in endless traffic jams. No driving around whilst your driver attempts to find a parking space. You’re able to keep constantly on the move setting your own pace and reacting to events as they unfold throughout the day.

Should something out of the ordinary occur, a sudden road closure or a unforeseen build up of traffic for example, you simply jump on the underground, or you cut across the nearest park, or duck in to the closest warren of alleyways and, hey presto, you’re back on track.

Visit London’s Attractions When They’re Quiet

The other great thing about exploring London on foot and by public transport is that you can visit the locations you want to visit at the best times.

If, for example, you wish to see the Crown Jewels (and let’s be honest they’re a pretty big highlight!) then Richard can time your arrival at the Tower of London when it is least crowded so that you don’t have to wait in a, seemingly endless, line.

If you want to witness the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, and providing it’s actually taking place on the day of your tour, Richard can take you to the very best vantage points from which to get the best views and the all important photographs and videos of the ceremony.

Half way through the day you might suddenly remember something that someone at home told you was a “must see” whilst in London. No problem. Richard can advise you if its do-able and, if it is, can change the itinerary accordingly to accommodate it.
